Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about remembering YouTube videos, beating the forgetting curve, and building your YouTube knowledge library

Video Tagging & Knowledge Management

Learn about video bookmarks, AI summaries, flashcards, and building a personal knowledge database

What is video tagging and how does it work?

Video tagging is the process of marking specific moments in videos with timestamps and notes. It allows you to capture important moments while watching, so you can quickly find and revisit key information later. With modern tools, you can tag any moment with a single click and automatically extract context from the video.

How do AI-powered video summaries help with learning?

AI-powered summaries distill hours of content into key insights, so you spend less time re-watching and more time applying what you learned.

What are flashcards and how do they improve knowledge retention?

Flashcards are learning tools that use spaced repetition to help you memorize and retain information long-term. When automatically generated from video content, they extract key concepts and create question-answer pairs that you can review regularly, significantly improving knowledge retention compared to passive watching.

What are flashcard collections?

Flashcard collections let you organize your flashcards into custom groups by topic, course, or project. This helps you focus your study sessions on specific subjects. Free users get 1 collection to try it out, while Pro users get unlimited collections for complete learning flexibility.

How does the learning progression work (New → Learning → Mastered)?

TAGiT tracks your mastery of each flashcard through four stages: New cards you haven't studied yet, Learning cards progressing through initial review steps (10min → 1hr → 1 day), Reviewing cards you're actively maintaining, and Mastered cards you consistently remember. This progression helps you see your knowledge growth and ensures you focus study time where it's needed most.

What is leech detection?

Leech detection identifies flashcards you're struggling with repeatedly. When a card becomes challenging (after multiple incorrect answers), TAGiT marks it with warning badges and offers helpful suggestions—like breaking complex concepts into simpler cards or adding memory aids. This helps you overcome learning obstacles instead of repeatedly failing the same cards.

How do video bookmarks differ from browser bookmarks?

Bookmarks just mark a location. Our video bookmarks (tags) capture the knowledge from that moment, help you review it at optimal times, and build a searchable knowledge base across all your videos.

What is a knowledge database for videos?

A knowledge database for videos is a searchable collection of all your tagged moments, summaries, and insights from videos you've watched. It transforms passive video watching into an active learning system where you can search, review, and connect ideas across different videos and topics.

What's spaced repetition and why does it matter?

Spaced repetition is reviewing information at increasing intervals (24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, etc.). Research shows it can boost retention by 200-250%. TAGiT automates this for you.

About TAGiT

Specific questions about TAGiT features, pricing, and how to use the extension

What is TAGiT?

TAGiT is a Chrome extension and web app that helps you remember YouTube videos using AI-powered insights and flashcards. It offers two ways to capture knowledge: Active Tagging (press Alt+T while watching on desktop) and Daily Digest (automatic emails with insights from videos you watched on any device).

See how to use TAGiT

How does TAGiT work?

TAGiT offers two capture methods. Active Tagging: While watching YouTube on desktop, press Alt+T to instantly capture a moment with AI summary and flashcards. Daily Digest: Watch YouTube on any device (TV, phone, tablet), and wake up to an email with AI insights and flashcards from the videos you watched. Both methods sync to your dashboard where you can search, review, and study.

Do I need to change how I watch videos?

No. TAGiT works alongside your normal watching. When something important happens, click to tag it. That's it. You don't need to pause, take notes, or change your viewing habits—just capture the moments that matter.

Why do I forget 90% of YouTube videos?

This is due to the forgetting curve, discovered by Hermann Ebbinghaus in 1885. Without active engagement, your brain naturally loses information over time: 50% within 1 hour, 70% within 24 hours, and 90% within 7 days. TAGiT combats this by using active recall (tagging moments while watching), AI summaries (reducing cognitive load), and spaced repetition (moving knowledge to long-term memory).

What makes TAGiT different from other video tools?

TAGiT combines three powerful features in one: instant tagging during playback (no need to pause), automatic AI summarization of content, and spaced-repetition flashcards for long-term retention. Everything is synced to a personal dashboard with search and export capabilities.

Explore use cases

Can I use TAGiT offline?

The extension requires an internet connection since it needs access to YouTube transcripts and AI processing. However, your tags and summaries are stored in the cloud, so you can review them in the dashboard anytime, even without the video.

How much does TAGiT cost?

TAGiT offers a free tier with 25 tags per month, including AI summaries and basic flashcards. Premium plans provide unlimited tagging, summaries, flashcards, and data export features.

Which platforms does TAGiT support?

TAGiT currently supports YouTube videos through a Chrome browser extension. The dashboard is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works on any device with a modern browser, including desktop, mobile, and tablets.

How do I tag a video moment?

While watching a YouTube video, simply press Alt+T (Windows/Linux) or Opt+T (Mac) at any moment you want to capture. You can also click the TAGiT button that appears on the extension. The tag is created instantly without pausing playback.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. TAGiT uses industry-standard encryption and Row Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure your tags, notes, and learning data are completely private. Only you can access your data, and it's stored securely in the cloud with automatic backups.

Can I export my tags and summaries?

Yes. Premium users can export their entire knowledge database in multiple formats (PDF, Markdown) from the dashboard. This ensures you always own your data and can use it with other tools or for backup purposes.

How does the AI generate summaries?

TAGiT uses advanced AI models to analyze the video transcript around your tagged timestamp. It identifies key concepts, main ideas, and important details, then generates a concise summary that captures the essence of that moment in the video.

Can I share my tags with others?

Yes. You can generate shareable links for individual tags, which include the timestamp, summary, and flashcards. This is perfect for sharing insights with study groups, colleagues, or on social media while respecting content creators' work.

What is text highlighting and how do I use it?

Text highlighting lets you mark important passages in your tags, flashcards, and Daily Digest content. Select any text to see the highlight toolbar, choose a color, and optionally add a note. Free users get unlimited purple highlights. Pro users unlock 4 additional colors with customizable labels to build a personal organization system. Right-click any color to rename its label.

How many tags can I create?

Free users can currently create up to 25 tags per month. Premium users currently have unlimited tagging. Each tag includes the timestamp, transcript excerpt, AI summary, and automatically generated flashcards.

What happens if a video is deleted from YouTube?

Your tags, summaries, and flashcards remain in your TAGiT dashboard even if the original video is deleted. You'll still have access to all the AI-generated content and notes, though the video link will no longer work.

Daily Digest

Learn about automatic video capture and email digests across all your devices

What is Daily Digest?

Daily Digest is an automatic feature that analyzes the YouTube videos you watched and sends you an email with AI-generated insights and flashcards. It works across all your devices—watch on TV, phone, or tablet, and wake up to a curated email of everything you learned.

How does Daily Digest know what videos I watched?

Daily Digest uses your YouTube watch history, which syncs across all devices where you are signed into the same Google account. When your computer is on and the TAGiT extension is running at your scheduled time, it processes the videos you watched and generates your digest.

Does Daily Digest work if my computer is off?

Daily Digest requires your computer to be on with the Chrome browser and TAGiT extension running at your scheduled digest time. If your computer is off or asleep, the digest will run the next time Chrome is open with the extension active.

Which videos are included in Daily Digest?

Daily Digest automatically filters out Music, Sports, Gaming, Entertainment, and YouTube Shorts by default. You can customize these filters in your settings to include or exclude specific categories and channels.

Can I customize Daily Digest settings?

Yes. You can set your preferred delivery time, choose how many videos to include (1-5 per digest), add a personal bio for tailored insights, block or prioritize specific channels, and configure which video categories to include or exclude.

How many videos are processed per Daily Digest?

You can configure between 1 and 5 videos per digest in your settings (default is 3). Daily Digest prioritizes longer, educational content and sorts videos by duration to focus on the most substantial content you watched.

What do I get in a Daily Digest email?

Each digest email includes: a summary and key insights from each video, automatically generated flashcards, an actionable takeaway, book and video recommendations to go deeper, and links to chat with any video for follow-up questions.

What if a video has no transcript?

By default, Daily Digest skips videos without transcripts since AI features require text to analyze. You can change this in settings if you want the digest to attempt processing all videos, though results may be limited for those without transcripts.

Is Daily Digest free?

Free users get a limited number of Daily Digests to try the feature. Pro users get unlimited Daily Digests. Check the pricing page for current limits.

Study & Flashcards

Master spaced repetition, organize your learning with collections, and make the most of flashcard study sessions

What is spaced repetition and why does it work?

Spaced repetition is a scientifically-proven learning technique that shows you information at increasing intervals. Instead of cramming, you review cards just before you'd forget them. This builds stronger, longer-lasting memories and helps you retain up to 90% of what you learn.

How do I rate my understanding (Got it, Almost, Review Again)?

When you flip a card, rate how well you remembered the answer. "Got it" means you recalled it confidently, so the card will appear less often. "Almost" means you were close but not quite, so you'll see it at the normal interval. "Review Again" means you need more practice, so you'll see the card again sooner. Be honest for best results!

What do the difficulty and mastery indicators mean?

Difficulty uses a star system: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Mastery (NewLearningReviewingMastered) tracks your progress with each card. Cards you consistently mark "Got it" move toward Mastered, while "Review Again" ratings keep them in active rotation.

What is Focus Mode and how do I use it?

Focus Mode removes distractions for an immersive study experience. Press "F" on desktop or tap the expand icon on mobile. Use keyboard shortcuts: Space to flip, 1/2/3 to rate (Got it/Almost/Review Again), and arrow keys to navigate. Press Escape to exit.

What are collections and why should I use them?

TAGiT Collections lets you organize flashcards into meaningful groups by topic, course, project, or however you learn best. Instead of reviewing all cards together, you can focus on specific subjects when you need targeted practice. Perfect for exam prep or deep-diving into topics.

Can I add the same flashcard to multiple collections?

Yes! A single flashcard can belong to multiple collections. For example, a card about "React Hooks" could be in both your "JavaScript" collection and your "Interview Prep" collection. This gives you flexibility without duplicating cards.

How do I practice a specific collection?

Click the "Practice" button on any collection card to start a focused study session with only those flashcards. Your reviews still count toward spaced repetition, and the system remembers your progress across all collections.

What's the difference between free and Pro collections?

Free users can create 1 collection to get started with organized learning. Pro TAGiT users get unlimited collections, perfect for managing multiple courses, projects, or areas of study. Upgrade anytime to unlock more organizational power.
